Supporting curriculum
Through a diverse educational programme that embraces both curriculum and supporting curriculum
subjects we hope to offer our students the best chance to gain employment or to enter post 16 education. We provide sessions on further education options, job searching, application form filling, interview techniques and opportunities for work experience.
We recognise that our students will have different levels of ability, interests, and styles of learning, and hope that our timetable will help to bring out the best in them.
The topics that we cover are:
Citizenship
Is seen as an important part of a student’s social development which aims to help the student understand the society in which they live and the role they have to play within it. The more our students feel part of their surroundings the more engaged they will become in a positive manner.
Whitlingham
Students will engage in conservation work which leads to the John Muir Award.
Life Skills
Students will learn cooking, budgeting, how to complete application forms etc.
World of work
Our students will progress towards work experience placements in year 11, completing CV’s, visiting different industries and giving them an understanding of which employment, and further education opportunities are available to them.
Sexual Health
This is a four week programme and is taken each academic year with parental agreement.
It will give students an understanding of their own sexual health, teenage pregnancies, STD’s, their bodies and the tools to keep themselves safe.
Sport
Through sport we encourage team work, and an understanding of their abilities, good nutrition, and its role in their lives.
Homework
Although there is not a set time allocated to homework, there may be occasions when some work will need to be done in student’s own time.
